Absentee Voting
In-person absentee voting hours
In-person absentee voting (also known as "early voting") occurs the two weeks prior to the election at the South Milwaukee Administration Building.
You will need to show your acceptable photo ID for voting when voting in-person absentee. More information about acceptable photo IDs can be found at the Bring it to the Ballot website.
In-Person Absentee Hours and Location for the April 7, 2026 Spring Election:
- Tuesday, March 24: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
- Wednesday, March 25: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
- Thursday, March 26: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
- Friday, March 27: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
- Monday, March 30: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
- Tuesday, March 31: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM
- Wednesday, April 1: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
- Thursday, April 2: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
- Friday, April 3: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
How to obtain an absentee ballot to be mailed to you
If you are not yet registered to vote, or you need to update your address or name, you must register or update name/address at MyVote Wisconsin prior to applying for an absentee ballot.
Ways to request an absentee ballot to be mailed to you:
- Online: The easiest and most convenient way to request an absentee ballot is at MyVote - Vote Absetee by Mail.
- Mail/Email: Download the EL-121 Application for Absentee Ballot. Complete in its entirety and mail to the City Clerk's Office, 2424 15th Avenue, South Milwaukee, WI 53172 or email to elections@southmilwaukee.gov. A copy of your acceptable photo ID must accompany the request. More information below.
- Drop off at Clerk's Office: The Clerk's Office can only accept applications over the counter during the 14-day period before each election. If outside of that period, applications MUST be mailed.

A copy of your photo ID must accompany the request, if you have not previously provided a copy. Exemptions from the photo ID requirement:
- Electors who are indefinitely confined, with the signature and address of a witness on the Absentee Certificate Envelope
- Electors residing in care facilities served by Special Voting Deputies, with the signatures of both deputies on the envelope
- Electors residing in care facilities not served by Special Voting Deputies, with the signature of an authorized representative of the care facility. If the elector is also indefinitely confined, the elector does not need a representative of the facility to sign.
- Military, Permanent Overseas and Confidential Electors-Exempt from the Photo ID requirement
